The Outstanding Educator Award was created by PTAs to recognize individuals who have provided outstanding educational opportunities for children and youth, beyond the normal scope of their jobs. An educator can be, but is not limited to, a teacher, including specialists, support staff, administrators, or community members.

For the 2019-2020 Outstanding Educator Award, Tahoma HS PTA recognizes Jami Suhoversnik and Jared Avelis!

* Jami has demonstrated an outstanding personal commitment to improving the lives of children and youth in the following ways:  Ms. Suhoversnik has shown dedication to her students beyond what is expected of a teacher. She is available to provide math assistance before school, after school, and during the entire power hour. She dedicates her life to her students, putting their needs before her own. She makes class funny and entertaining, while still teaching her students the content that they need to know. Ms. Suhoversnik is the teacher that every student needs as they move forward in their life. A teacher that will not only support you academically but personally too. Ms. Suhoversnik is willing to help any student that is in need, regardless of if they are actually in any of her classes. Ms. Suhoversnik works at 100% capacity all day, engaging her classes with her positive attitude. Ms. Suhoversnik is one of the reasons that I love math. She makes me eager to come to her class each day to learn and to experience her incredible commitment to her students.  She has been a coach for the school bowling team (a non-paid position), service district-wide to the school's community, T.E.A Representative, Ms. Suhoversnik is so incredible!

* Jared has demonstrated an outstanding personal commitment to improving the lives of children and youth in the following ways:  Mr. Avelis has consistently shown his care and love for students on a day to day basis. He always is willing to meet students more than halfway and do whatever he can to accompany their needs. I’ve never met a teacher so devoted to every single person that they meet until I met him. He makes every kid want to show up and learn every day. He always wants to support kids following their dreams and living up to their highest potential. Not to mention, he has only been a teacher at Tahoma for 2 years and has already made an enormous impact. This is his last year teaching as he is leaving to live his dream life, yet still wants to be involved in students' lives as much as he can. He has participated with PTA Service, and been a school volunteer (non-PTA).
