We want to assure Tahoma parents that we are totally committed to working with you as we navigate this challenging time. We understand the Senior parents want for information, and many other parents are asking those same “what if” questions: What if the commencement ceremony is cancelled? What if the event ban is not lifted until July? What if there is no way to reschedule the party?

While we don’t have all the answers yet, we want to send you as much information as we can, as soon as we can.

What if the commencement ceremony is cancelled?
Governor Inslee announced on Monday that in-person schooling has been cancelled for the rest of this school year, but he specifically stated that he holds hope that graduation ceremonies could still happen. We are heartened that the graduation ceremony, and the post-graduation event, have not yet been taken away from our kids and may indeed still happen.

However, even if there is no graduation ceremony, we are ready to still move forward. We understand that the pandemic, and the restrictions put in place by the Governor, make it impossible for our graduates to celebrate in the way we wish they could right now. Through our years of working with parents and the seniors, we are in awe of their resilience and flexibility. While having a celebration right at the time of graduation is what we all want, we know that giving them the opportunity to come together even months later will allow them to rekindle the spirit of celebration, and to relive the highlights of their high-school experiences.

What if the event ban is not lifted until July – or later?
This is where we are now readying ourselves to step up quickly. The moment that Governor Inslee lifts the ban on group gatherings, we will immediately reach out to you to set a new date for your senior’s celebration. While the scheduling may run later into the summer, or possibly into the 2021 school year, we are confident that we can find windows during breaks and vacations that will allow us to create an event that will allow the seniors to gather together for one last time; to share their collective experiences and celebrate their academic achievement and transition into adulthood. Isolated for weeks and perhaps months, we know that’s what Tahoma seniors will want.

What if there is no way to reschedule the party?
Several parents have asked what happens if there are simply no alternatives and rescheduling cannot happen. We want to provide a simple easy answer, but at this point we just don’t know. We know that’s not what anyone wants to hear, it’s what we’re hearing from the news every day. But this is totally unforeseeable and in our forty year history nothing like this has ever happened - we are in totally uncharted waters.  We are talking with our venues and vendors trying to formulate our plan now. We promise, we are doing everything in our power to get answers as soon as possible, but at this point, as it relates to a complete cancellation of all parties, we just don’t have them.

We are glued to news updates, as I’m sure you are as well, and doing our best to move forward despite the current unknowns. Our team continues in its preparation of the events, we can’t say for certain when they will be allowed to occur, but we know that we must be ready to move quickly when they do. We will continue to update you and all our parents as soon as we have more information.
